Cellcom Liberia Gets New CEO

first_imgThe Management of Cellcom Telecommunications, Inc.  (Cellcom), has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer to run its multimillion dollar business.  The Chairman of Cellcom’s Board of Directors, Mr. Avi Zaidenberg, made the announcement last week at the Company’s Headquarters on Capital Bypass and also at a well-attended farewell party for the outgoing CEO held in Mamba Point last Friday.Mr. Zaidenberg announced that Mr. Avishai Marziano who has served as CEO for Cellcom for over four years has been promoted to Regional Group Head and would oversee Cellcom’s operations in both Liberia and in Sierra Leone.    Mr. Zaidenberg announced that Marzano is being replaced as CEO of Cellcom’s Liberian operations by Mr. John Vasikaran.The formal turning over ceremony between the two CEOs took place on Friday, November 1 in Mamba Point.   The emotionally charged event was attended by the U.S. Ambassador, Madam Deborah Malac, the Minister of Information Culture and Tourism, Hon. Lewis Brown, the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, high level dignitaries, as well as Cellcom staff and supporters.  Making brief remarks at the event, Mr. Marziano termed his departure from Liberia as “bittersweet.”    He described his tenure in Liberia as both challenging as well as rewarding.     “The last four years have truly been one of the most exciting timesof my life,” Marziano said.     Although sad to be leaving his post in Liberia, Mr. Marziano said he was delighted that his new role as Group CEO would allow him to continue to have oversight responsibilities in Liberia and also to return to the country frequently.   Marziano told the gathering:  “I consider Liberia my home.  No matter where I am in the world, Liberia has a special place in my heart.”   He went on to say: “I will not say good bye, but only farewell, because I will be in and out of Liberia and will definitely see you often. As many of you may know, I am taking on a new challenge as Group CEO for Cellcom and will be based in Conakry, Guinea. Liberia, however, remains my home and I will always be here.”He went on to express thanks and gratitude to Cellcom’s more than 1 million customers, to its staff, and its business partners.  He said:  “I want to take this time to thank all of you, beginning with our Lawmakers, policy makers at the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications, the LTA Board of Commissioners, The President of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, our competitors, whom we also consider our collaborators, and especially to all of our customers, for whom we are here to serve. My time working with each of you has been an enriching experience.”For his part, the incoming CEO Mr.  Vasikaran said that he believed that his new role as CEO would be a challenge, but one that he was suited to handle.   He comesto Cellcomwithan extensive career in the telecommunications industry in Nigeria and Ghana,including his most recent post as Head of Business for Glo Ghana.   He acknowledged that Mr. Marziano had set the foundation and built an already solid company, which would make it easier for him to move Cellcom to the next level.   Mr. Vasikaransaid:  “Unlike many companies where one comes in and inherits a flawed system that does not work, I’m taking over the helm of a very vibrant Company,which means that we can do a lot to significantly increase the company’s market share in a very short period.”The appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer of Cellcom takes immediate effect.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
