At a time when high school seniors across the nation are starting to hear back from some of their dream schools, one particular senior just ended a rather peculiar college search. Velus Jones Jr., a wide receiver recruit out of Saraland High School in Alabama, announced Saturday that he has committed to USC in the fall.Saturday’s announcement wasn’t the first time Jones committed to USC — the 5-foot-11, 180-pound recruit said back in April that he had chosen the Trojans over a host of suitors that included schools like Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and Michigan. Still, there was one alternative that remained appealing to Jones. On Friday, Jones swapped the cardinal and gold for the crimson and cream, as Jones announced that he was committing to Oklahoma. No sooner had Jones committed to being a Sooner, than the three-star recruit changed his mind once again to return to Troy, stating in a tweet on Saturday: “I have made my final decision to attend the University of Southern California and I’m ending my recruitment FIGHT ON!”The Trojans hope Jones can continue his success from his last two years at Saraland. In his junior and senior seasons, Jones gained more than 2,000 yards over 99 receptions, racking up 19 touchdowns in the process. After leading Saraland to Alabama’s Class 6A championship game and making an appearance in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, his former head coach Jeff Kelly has good reason to give him a glowing review.“I think Velus is a guy who can do a lot of things,” Kelly said to AL.com. “He can play both the inside and outside receiver. He can create different matchups, and he also is a guy who is very dangerous returning kicks and punts.”Jones will likely join four other USC wide receiver recruits in the 2016 class, including Josh Imatorbhebhe from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia and Michael Pittman from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California, both of whom have already enrolled for the spring semester. The other two — who have not yet signed letters of intent — are Tyler Vaughns and Trevon Sidney, both hailing from Bishop Amat in La Puente, California. The incoming class of receivers will hope to follow in the footsteps of recent Trojan greats like Robert Woods and Marqise Lee, and they will have at least one season with current star JuJu Smith-Schuster to show them the ropes. All recruits have until National Signing Day — Feb. 3 — to finalize their commitments.

Twitter/@basketballtalkThis one might get a little bit awkward. This afternoon, University of Memphis president Dr. M. David Russ announced that the school will be honoring former head basketball coach John Calipari this December. Will be honoring Hall of Fame coach @UKCoachCalipari in Memphis, Dec 28-29. Stay tuned for details. Will be a great homecoming.— Dr. M. David Rudd (@UofMemphisPres) September 9, 2015From 2001-2009, Calipari was extremely successful with the Tigers. The program went 252-69 under Calipari, reaching the Elite Eight three times and losing in the national championship in 2007-08. Of course, that season, in which the Tigers went 38-1, was vacated after the NCAA invalidated star guard Derrick Rose’s SAT score. By the time the NCAA made its ruling, Calipari had already taken the job at Kentucky.Calipari has a major hand in turning Memphis into a nationally relevant program, but his departure has definitely rubbed many Tigers fans the wrong way. We’re very interested to see what type of reaction the fan base has in December.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh apologized on Twitter shortly after commenting on the motivation behind Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.Earlier today, Jim Harbaugh said he “didn’t respect the motivation” behind San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit down during the national anthem on Friday night.Kaepernick, who played for Harbaugh in San Fran from 2011-14, explained his decision on multiple occasions, saying it revolved around the treatment of black people and people of color in the U.S.“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game against Green Bay. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”Just minutes after his initial comments on Kaepernick went public –and caused some criticism on social media–Jim Harbaugh apologized on his favorite medium.I apologize for misspeaking my true sentiments. To clarify, I support Colin’s motivation. It’s his method of action that I take exception to— Coach Harbaugh (@CoachJim4UM) August 29, 2016Looking at the responses to Harbaugh’s tweet, some have accepted his apology, others haven’t and some are wondering why he apologized in the first place. Seems like the man can’t help causing a stir even when he doesn’t intend to.
New Delhi: The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Friday reported 31.67 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,376.8 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, on account of lower sales volume and higher depreciation expenses. The company, which posted a net profit of Rs 2,015.1 crore in April-June period 2018-19, said in the next three years it will completely shift to paying royalty to parent Suzuki Motor Corp in rupees instead of yen. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscalIt said revenue from sale of products during the first quarter this fiscal stood at Rs 18,738.8 crore as compared to Rs 21,813.8 crore earlier, down 14 per cent. Depreciation and amortisation expenses during the first quarter stood at Rs 919 crore as compared with Rs 720.3 crore in the year-ago period. The company sold a total of 4,02,594 vehicles during the quarter, lower by 17.9 per cent from the year-ago period. Sales in the domestic market stood at 3,74,481 units, down 19.3 per cent. Exports were at 28,113 units. Also Read – Food grain output seen at 140.57 mt in current fiscal on monsoon boostMSI CFO Ajay Seth said during the first quarter the company was also affected by the ongoing slowdown in the domestic automobile industry. “It was the fourth consecutive quarter of decline in volumes (for the industry). During the quarter, passenger vehicles (PV) sales of the industry declined 18 per cent…The company was also impacted by the demand weakness and domestic sales declined by 19.3 per cent,” Seth told analysts. He, however, said the current situation is a cyclical phenomenon and MSI continues to believe in the long-term potential of the market. Elaborating on the challenges in the market, MSI Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) R S Kalsi said the rural market, which was earlier witnessing good traction, is also under a lot of pressure and saw decline of around 17 per cent. The decline in the rural market was almost similar to what has happened in the urban market, he said adding footfalls at showrooms continued to witness big decline. Commenting on royalty payment to parent Suzuki, Seth said at present royalty on almost 45 per cent of the models are now being paid in rupee and the remaining 55 per cent will also transition fully from yen to rupee in the next three years. “So, by 2021-22 we would have all the models, which would have moved to the rupee formula,” he said, adding for the first quarter of the fiscal the royalty payment was at 5.2 per cent of net sales. In 2015, MSI had announced that it would start paying royalty to its parent Suzuki in rupee instead of yen for all new models starting with the Vitara Brezza which was launched in 2016. Earlier, company’s Chairman R C Bhargava had said that the royalty of all the models of Maruti was expected to be in rupee terms by 2025. When asked about BS-VI preparedness, Kalsi said the company is working keeping in mind the April 2020 deadline. “Majority of our models will be ready by end of 2019,” he said. At present, five of the company’s top selling models are BS-VI compliant. These are Alto, WagonR, Swift, Dzire and Baleno.
Bruce Springsteen canceled a concert scheduled for North Carolina over the weekend in protest over an extreme Anti-LGBT law.“As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday,” said the singer in a statement. “As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.”H.B. 2 has eliminated existing municipal non-discrimination protections for LGBT people and prevents such protections from being passed by cities in the future. The legislation also forces transgender students in public schools to use restrooms and other facilities inconsistent with their gender identity, putting 4.5 billion dollars in federal funding under Title IX at risk. It also compels the same type of discrimination against transgender people to take place in state buildings, including in public universities. Lawmakers passed the legislation in a hurried, single-day session, and Governor McCrory quickly signed it into law in the dead of night.“Bruce Springsteen is a hero and an icon because he gives voice, both through his music and his advocacy, to those who struggle against injustice and equality,” said Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin. “It means so much that he has spoken out against this hateful bill on behalf of thousands of citizens whose rights and fundamental dignity are being trampled by the leadership of North Carolina.”
