Ekta Bisht stars as India women thrash England by 66 runs in 1st ODI

first_imgIndia women defended a mere total of 202 runs and did it in some style as they beat England by 66 runs in the first one-day international of the three-match series on Friday. It looked an unlikely defence for India when England captain Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver built a 73-run partnership in the middle but Sciver’s wickets opened the floodgates and Ekta Bisht cleaned up the tail to wrap up the match for India.These ODIs are part of ICC Championship and each match is important for India to make it to the next World Cup. Ekta Bisht was the star of the Indian bowlers as she inflicted the run out of Sciver and returned with figures of 4 for 25.Apart from Bisht, Shikhar Pandey and Deepti Sharma picked two wickets each while veteran Jhulan Goswami returned with figures of 1 for 19.Chasing 203, England’s top three never really got going as they were down by three wickets by the 14th over. Shikha trapped Amy Ellen Jones leg before wicket for just one run in the second over itself. From there, England could score only 25 runs and lost six wickets in 10 overs as India took the match away to take a 1-0 lead in the series.Earlier, Indian women’s team suffered a middle-order collapse to be bundled out for a modest 202 by England.
