Annan is disbanding Jenin factfinding team spokesman says

A spokesman for United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said this evening that Mr. Annan was disbanding the fact-finding team into recent events in the Jenin refugee camp, as indicated in the letter the Secretary-General had forwarded to the Security Council on Wednesday. “The Secretary-General has written to the Council President, the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority communicating this decision,” said a statement released by the spokesman’s office. According to the statement, the Secretary-General has also written to the head of the fact-finding mission, former President of Finland Marti Ahtisaari, and his team, thanking them for “the dedication, energy and time that they have given the United Nations.”
