Twenty Vancouver firefighters are traveling to Portland today to show their respect for the former West Linn man who died in the Arizona fire that claimed 19 firefighter’s lives. The remains of John Percin Jr., 24, who graduated from West Linn High School in 2007, will be escorted by honor guard back to Oregon today for his funeral service and burial. A private jet is scheduled to arrive at the Portland International Airport at 11:15 a.m. A procession will then escort Percin’s urn to Lake Oswego’s main fire station, which is expected to arrive between noon and 1 p.m.Percin was a member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters battling the 2,000-acre blaze. Nineteen of the group’s members died June 30 and thousands gathered today in Arizona for their memorial. During the procession, all on-ramps to southbound Interstate 205 in the route will be closed. The closures will be in effect long enough to clear the southbound lanes for the procession and will be re-opened after it passes. Anyone wishing to pay their respects can view the procession from an I-205 overpasses.The Vancouver firefighters are not being paid for their time in Portland.
