Police man high on mushrooms grabs officers gun shoots

first_imgBEAVERTON, Ore. — Beaverton, Ore., police say an 18-year-old man accused of grabbing a sergeant’s gun inside City Hall and firing a shot was high on mushrooms and hallucinating.No one was hit by the bullet in the Friday evening scuffle.The Oregonian reports that Jared Steven Leone was arraigned Monday on two counts of assaulting a public safety officer, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possessing a controlled substance. It was not known late Monday whether he had a lawyer.Detective Sgt. Jim Shumway says Leone is reportedly from the Seattle area although he recently attended high school in Vernonia, Ore.Court records say Leone started running in circles after coming to the police records division in City Hall and telling a clerk he was “overdosing on mushrooms.” Three officers wound up struggling with him and he’s accused of grabbing Sgt. Robert Davis’ gun. Davis suffered a shoulder injury.Police say they used a stun gun seven times on Leone to no effect. More officers eventually helped arrest him.last_img
